Happy Pi day to all you nerds out there! For the past pi days, my friend and I would usually go out, buy a slice, then enjoy them while enjoying the water with a view of sunny San Diego. This year, said friend is up north for a retreat and I am feeling a bit sick and staying home the whole day. BUT that doesn't stop me from celebrating this nerd-tastic occasion especially it being the

With that being said, I wanted to make my own pie today and the only other kinds of pie I have ever made was pecan or apple pie. I wanted to try something new. Deciding on what kind to make was a tough choice and I thought back to all the pictures I've seen online with the numbers cut out from pie dough and placed on top of the pie. I was leaning more towards an apple pie so that I can make it similar to the ones I've seen online but my all-time favorite pie is a banana cream pie and that doesn't typically have a crust on top. I made my decision and it turned out to be a success! (I may have eaten 5 pieces already)
Awwwwww! Look how adorable that is! I decided to make little mini pies as it would be easier to share and to stop myself from eating an entire 9-inch pie. As I was looking up recipes for a banana cream pie, more ideas were flowing through my head. What kind of crust should I make? Should I buy the pre-made ones? Pudding from scratch or buy the packets? Of course, I decided to make a challenge for myself and made everything from scratch. Knowing banana cream pies usually have vanilla wafers but realizing I decided on mini pies, I had the idea to make the crust using blended wafers, mixing it with some butter and sugar, then baking it. GREAT IDEA. It held together pretty well, even though there were a number of them that broke, but I'm working on it. Next, I made the vanilla pudding from scratch by roughly following a recipe I had found online. I was unsure about it at first and was worrying too much but it turned out pretty tasty. Good for snacking too since I have a lot left over. In the cooled pie shells, i added a thin slice of banana, covered it in the pudding, and made some whipped cream with a vanilla-nut and butter flavor.
I think they came out a success with it being my first time attempting it. Now that I know i can make it, I'll probably make it more often, which could be a bad thing, as well. Anyway, Happy Ultimate Pi Day and celebrate with a slice of pie yourself or share with a friend, if you want to.
